Reclaiming Thought with AI has to be in the class of "East Asia has always been at war with Eurasia" because the sentence literally invites using an adjunct to replace the core functional task, instead of developing the skills in the primary fat-sack you have. It's a twaaap.

On the whole, I think an AI assist to thought is probably about as much use as any other aide memoire. Writing your notes might work better. Keeping a logbook of your thinking, criticism, and conversation with other people definitely so.

I would call an AI a poor substitute for another person's point of view, and the act of converting your own reading into an expression with them, and the resulting conversation.

Many conferences, the most valuable thing I take away with me is the notebook with an elastic strap, pencil holder and a pocket.

I always tend to think in terms of technology whether it's enhancing or diminishing the potential of the user. A bow is more powerful than a stick but also develops more motor skills, a bike develops the users body more than a car, and so on. Another way to put is is ask yourself whether adopting a given piece of technology is likely to turn you into the Wall-E people[1] or the opposite.

The article is basically an ad for some LLM product and sounds like it's written by one. I don't think the way people use them develops their mental faculties. If you want to organize your thoughts just use a system like Zettelkasten because you have to put conscious thought into your organizing, and if you want to learn to write don't take cues from a chatbot.

Totally agree. I like bike much more than car, however the trend of bike superseded by car cannot be reversed, given car's convenience and power.

IMO if we cannot reverse it, then embrace it. It applies to other tech advancement as well.

The decline of deep thinking in the digital age is a pressing concern. While technology presents challenges to our cognitive faculties, it also offers unprecedented opportunities. By leveraging AI as a cognitive partner, we can counteract the negative effects of constant connectivity and revive our capacity for deep, meaningful thought.

> Rabrain is more than just a writing assistant; it is your secondary brain. Collect insights, manage your knowledge, and transform fleeting ideas into fully developed content. With Rabrain, your creative potential is always within reach.

So, it's an LLM based product that will help bring back attention span, focus and deeper thoughts.

I was expecting more focus on the Black Mirror series, but this whole article could perfectly fit in an episode, that's exactly the future that would be envisioned.
