Uv: Unified Python Packaging
astral.sh@dang - I don't think this is a dupe. There is https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=41302475, but that's the CHANGELOG entry. This is a blog post announcing new tooling.
I think a mod marked it as a dupe of this one:
Uv: Python packaging in Rust - https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=39387641 - Feb 2024 (210 comments)
Thanks for the fix. :-)
I think a major release after 6 months is probably ok for a new thread - part of the problem here was the title since the topic is framed as "project as a whole" rather than "diff from last time".
Can you guys suggest a good title that summarizes the latter?
Thanks dang, I appreciate it. I'd suggest something like:
uv: A unified alternative to Poetry, pipx, pyenv, and more
We didn't support those workflows until today. If you'd prefer a true diff:
uv adds support for projects, cross-platform lockfiles, scripts, and Python installs
I guess standard HN practice here would be to include the version number in the title (thus implying that the diff is 'a new release') while still clarifying what the project is for users who are new to it.
Since gaspb posted https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=41302475 first, I think maybe we'll merge the thread thither. (Sorry ibraheemdev! it's on our list to eventually implement some sort of credit/karma sharing for cases like this.)
