>Meta chief AI scientist Yann LeCun will serve as a technical advisor to Groq and Stuart Pann, the former head of Intel’s foundry business and ex-CIO at HP, will join the startup as chief operating officer, Groq also announced today. LeCun’s appointment is a bit unexpected, given Meta’s investments in its own AI chips — but it undoubtedly gives Groq a powerful ally in a cutthroat space.

How is facebook ok with this?

Meta has repeatedly shown that they want to commoditize AI, their recent releases of large models cement this. Anything that they can do to undermine the dominant position of Nvidia, OpenAI (and hence Microsoft), Apple et al and make them a replaceable cog furthers Meta's own goals. Having companies challenge Nvidia on the hardware front lines up with this plan nicely.

Meta creates top models, Groq has the hardware to run them. Whats not to like?

I'd guess that this means they'll get access to Groq's chips.

"No, not that Gro[q/k]"

Groq came first, and wasn't too happy about Groks name, but they haven't been able to do anything about it.
