thehatersball.comA little over two decades ago, before Facebook was a thing, I had the idea for a social network where your dislikes, as opposed to your likes, would be centre stage. Logic being that likes are too often boring and generic¹ while dislikes are specific, visceral, revealing, and sometimes comedic. It can be quite fun to riff with someone on your shared dislike of something innocuous like olives.
Looking at the state of the world, I’m glad I never pursued the idea. Last thing we need is more division.
¹ Yes yes, you enjoy long walks on the beach, honesty, generosity, and relaxation. Like most people.
Years ago, the Advogato forum had a skill rating system called the Web of Trust. There was an evil-twin companion parody site Badvogato whose members were bound together by a Web Of Mutual Suspicion and advertised their dislikes..
