Unread: An RSS Reader – Now Available for Mac
goldenhillsoftware.comCongrats on the app launch. As a heavy RSS user myself I'll give this a spin. I am coming from NetNewsWire.
First impression after adding my OPML: - I don't think the main feature "Beautiful typography" is true nor do I want it. Please give us the option to use the default macOS system font. The one currently in use makes it look like a Microsoft app (segeo ui or something).
- Please add a default macOS theme as well. The app should have a standard window background with an accent color set in system preferences. Of course, it should also respect day/night mode. This will be the main reason why I can not switch. I don't like any of the available themes.
- "Handling of summary-only feeds" - I can't find this in the interface at all. How does it work and where do I activate it?
- I think the padding above the article looks a bit off.
I will update my feedback when I have some time to use it more.
Thank you for trying Unread.
I am considering an option to use system standard fonts.
Unread respects night mode, and lets you set one theme for light mode and another for dark mode. I do not have plans for a Mac default theme.
The handling of summary-only feeds: Unread can retrieve the article from the webpage and show you webpage text. You can switch between feed text, webpage text, or both for any article. Unread lets you make that change apply to all articles from that feed. Unread even tries to figure out which feeds are summary-only, and sets the default display mode to webpage text when it is.
BTW feel free to send me feedback directly - support@goldenhillsoftware.com
Reminds me a lot of Newsflash for Linux: https://apps.gnome.org/NewsFlash/
I'm not sure what this offers over NetNewsWire, which is free and open source, and also looks almost identical, at least based on these screenshots.
I encourage you to try Unread and see if you still feel that way. NetNewsWire is a fantastic app, but the two apps are very different.
Unread is also a free app. Premium features are available with a subscription.
This is awesome!!!
Thank You
