Ask HN: How to Verify for Fraud
I have a need to verify user data for possible fraud
the needs are
1. Email: Verify age of account, i.e., is it a new account set up for fraud
2. CC #: Is it a virtual card or a prepaid/gift card purchased from a store
3. Phone number: is is a virtual VOIP number
Is there a single aPI provider who can solve all these?
Thanks
G2 2 and maybe 3 oughta be relatively solvable (though ... prepaid card does not inherently mean fraud (nor does using a VoIP number)) but ... how could you possibly verify the age of an email address? Email Age Checker https://www.ipqualityscore.com/email-age-checker But, just because the address is old doesn't mean it wasn't recently sold to a fraudster. > IPQS uses our relationships with large retailers, dating sites, social networks, marketplaces, etc. to understand when an email address was first used online. That sounds scary (or fake). I ... find that incredibly improbable as being anything close to reality If it is not a scam ... it has no way of knowing the "age" of most (if not all) email accounts out there (unless they have been breached somewhere and they snagged the list a la HaveIBeenPwned) also ... when was the website built? The early 00s? Who does center text with rough justification that is not a scammer? And gow about people who use a unique address for an service?
