I think AI needs a killer app. ChatGPT has shown off AI's power but there is still a killer app missing.

And when you say "killer app", does that include literal killer apps too?

Imagine 2 opponents like Ukraine and Russia. One has 20k drones, and the other 200k drones, both powered by AI. But the one wiht 20k drones not only has better AI, but after each battle action is able to analyze the data and retrain its AI using 100000 NVidia H100's, and with each battle its AI becomes more and more advanced compared to the enemy's AI. That's a case where the superior software more than makes up for the lower quantity of hardware. In other words that AI is worth gold.

I use ChatGPT so much everyday it’s definitely a killer app for me.

Agree that for many ChatGPT is the killer app. The second (first?) being GitHub Copilot. Seriously magical.

I think the comment was more "What's next?"

GitHub Copilot definitely a game changer in terms of productivity. Tend to still get lost in the weeds a little, but it's been fantastic since our team started using it.

Genuine question, what for? What am I missing? I've got the tab pinned, but hardly ever ask ChatGPT anything.

I live in tmux and use shellgpt to hit it. I use it ~100x a day probably for stupid shit like the syntax to a command or what API/service/program is best for X or Y. It's replaced 95% of my search queries as by the time I dig into explicit details I can narrow down to exactly what I need in the official docs/etc without any digging.

Treat it like a better search engine to do first-pass digs in a quick tmux split and it's an incredible time saver.

So many varied things. It’s also much more useful on the phone so you can ask for things on the spot. Also 3.5 isn’t going to cut it, 4o is an order of magnitude better.

Just going through the recent history- proper use of plant sterols, identifying a weird bulb from a pic so I could order a replacement, a question (with a solution!) about lead outs in fusion 360, surface area calculation for an object from a picture, an estimate of all US professional athlete numbers, how to grow lilacs, questions related to radio wave propagation through different mediums, a thorough explanation of NEMA electrical outlets etc. This is just a selection of some over the last day or so.

AI Agents doing tasks for you is the killer app. Nearly there.
