Ask HN: Are there zero-retention email services? Postmark? Resend?

1 points by level87 a year ago · 3 comments · 1 min read

I'm building a healthcare-related web service where users contact professionals via a form on profile pages. Privacy is really important, so I need an email service that doesn't store sent emails and removes them from the server once delivered.

I've been looking at services like Postmark and Resend, but they all store emails for a set period. Some (like Postmark) offer zero-retention, but require 6+ months of use and 10,000+ lifetime emails sent.

I'm just launching this as a personal project to help a few people, with no certainty of growth, and can't meet the requirements or additional costs.

Questions: Are there any zero-retention services for new, low-volume senders?

Has anyone dealt with a similar use case in healthcare? How did you resolve it?

Advice appreciated!

I'm located in Europe.

Resend founder here.

We don’t have many resources about this publicly, but we help many companies in the healthcare space with zero-day retention.

Drop a message to support@resend.com and we can give more info.

    Thanks!

I've already contacted your support, but the requirements I was sent are a little to high for me at the moment, specifically:

    - Maintain a 95% deliverability rate for at least 1 month and 3K emails and a required $50/m add-on

It's a small project, I'm not sure I'll be hitting 3k emails anytime soon, or have the budget for the $50/m add-on.

Are these the requirements for companies in the healthcare space?

This is a somewhat standard requirement for “special treatment” in that industry; the deliverability requirements are establishing trust, which is currency in email markets. You could roll out the anonymity/compliance feature after a month of using their service for delivering email to those customers, for other features that don’t require the compliance. And if you end up having a >5% bounce rate, you may have other problems.
