Show HN: Grief Companion
eirenecremations.comThis sounds like a great initiative. One of those projects trying to make the world a better place.
Interestingly, my first thought was, "This sounds like one of the most dangerous, misguided things I've ever seen."
Not everyone's grief journey is the same, and I'll be the first to acknowledge it, but in my own experience, what meant the most to me and saved my sanity (and possibly my life) were the people who were willing to show up, sit with me, and say absolutely nothing at all. There's nothing to say during grief that will help. Presence helps. Not being alone helps. I've yet to talk to anyone who said, "I wish anyone would just have said more things to me in my deepest grief."
Replacing that desperately needed human presence--and usually silent presence!!--with a chat bot? Something that absolutely cannot be present to you, and can only say things?
It's as wrong a solution as I can possibly imagine for this problem.
I thought there were real people who would be there instead of a chat bot. With my assumption/reading being wrong, I'm strongly inclined to agree with you.
It looks like a tailored chatbot acting as a grief counselor? But the page isn't clear about whether it's AI. Do the customers know? Maybe that's the point...?
