There's no way this isn't some kind of scam, right? How is browsing to a website and calling a number (or installing an entire new app) easier than going to Settings > Cellular and reading the clearly displayed number? Why would this much more complicated service be offered if there isn't some abuse going on?

The Android app tries to use the SIM card info on Android. The website can only detect your phone number by calling the provided number. The app has 500K+ installs.

Sometimes it's hard to remember the phone number on the spot or you get a new SIM and want to see its phone number. Very handy for older folks.

Works from any country does not pick up the phone.

Because you may not be calling from a cellphone, but from a land-line.

Nothing about the number displayed on the app means that you have to use the device in your hand to dial it.

edit: actually, it does look like the desktop landing page explicitly suggests that this is what it's for.

I would still just call any random ANAC and have my number read back to me on the call instead of using this service to setup a session online, call the provided number, and then return to the web session to learn my number. There are plenty of well known ANACs, like 1-800-444-4444

Didn't work on Android Firefox; when clicking to dial, once my phone app eventually came up and dialed, by the time I switched back to Firefox, my session had apparently timed out.

Worked fine when I used my desktop to pull up the site though - neat!

Or just call me and I will tell you what your phone number is.
