Hi everyone big HN fan here ... so big, that I always wanted a better UI on mobile (and desktop). So since none of the existing apps satisfied my taste, I setout to do the only reasonable thing: program an app myself.

It's made in flutter + serverpod (so all Dart) and therefore comes in iOS, Android, Web (future Linux, Mac, Windows)

Yes, it has all the boring parts: list feeds, read and comment articles, ...

More exciting parts:

- swipe list items for faster actions (fav, upvote)

- customize feed (pure list, preview image, newspaper style)

- Customize click actions (open URL, open comment)

- highlight OP comments.

- collapsable comment threads.

The every exciting parts:

- Offline reading / caching

- Notifications about high-score/interesting/most-commented items.

and

- AI summary, summaries the article as a bulletin

Wanna try out the app (as PWA) before downloading ==> https://app.hn-reader.com

All other info here: https://www.hn-reader.com

And yes, I'll be in the comments for questions

Your recent comments come off a bit spammy (and are flag killed) - are you manually posting your recent comments or is the app posting the summary automatically?

I dunno if HN is the kind of place for a "sent by applicationName" footer in every comment either, feels like none of your comments are going to be seen while using this app

Yea i was trying to create more reach for the app (manually)

The feature with the footer was already removed due to the learnings you mentioned above :)

Oh, and in case you are wondering: comments via the app are exactly the same as comments via this web site.

Can you add it to https://github.com/cheeaun/awesome-hacker-news , too? That's usually where I point users to when they ask about mobile apps or dark mode or extra features (filtering, offline). HN website should start listing apps on a help page.

Ah, one question that I already anticipate: Will I open source it? Yea I plan so, once I cleaned up the source code. :D
