Ask HN: Why do you write comments/tweets/posts?

5 points by Nales 2 years ago · 6 comments · 1 min read

I personally rarely want to comment articles or videos. Most of the time, I cannot find anything interesting to add; and a lot of time when I read other people comments I do not think most of them add any value.

I am interested to know why you write those comments, tweets or posts. I am specially curious about heavy writers commenting at least once a week.

For a long time, I didn't feel like commenting for various reasons. Then, I decided to try it as an experimental practice, to get more comfortable with putting my words out into the world. I guess that experiment continues.

What I've discovered so far, is I enjoy answering Ask HN questions the most. So I keep an eye on the new Ask HN submissions, and comment when I see something where I might have something to say. I especially like when I can share from a place of personal experience and help someone else out there in the world.

Have you looked at "new". Stuff arrives every few seconds (not so much on a Sunday). Someone has to contribute early and there must be something which catches your interest. "When a man is tired of HN he is tired of life" as Samuel Johnson didn't say.

I write some comments sometimes to motivate people to do what they do, It's pretty hard to get the articles and posts out, and it is much easier to appreciate the effort even if they are strangers. (Nothing really bad happens)

Boredom. It’s not like anyone cares about comments anyhow. Voices lost to the wind.
