Ask HN: Did you relate the Mind is Flat book to LLMs?
While reading the prologue of the book the mind is flat by Nick Chater published in 2018, the description is very similar to how a LLM works, that is it creates or predicts the next word without deep concepts about what is the structure of the future. Is an amazing analogy.
Edited: Excerpt from that book, at the botton of page 8: When we begin to describe our feelings, or explain our actions, we are only creating stories, one step at a time, not exploring a pre-existing inner world of thoughts and feelings.
So the similarities between LLMs and our minds are enhanced. I got a whole bunch of inner world that goes into describing anything in my head. The bottleneck is the medium. I can't just think to you my thought and it's surrounding contexts and memories and reasons.
