Definitely a reason to build your own NAS, at least then you can easily update the kernel or whatever software.
It's odd how terrible these manufacturers are at security. Making hardware and firmware isn't exactly trivial yet security 101...nope
D-Link has an exceptionally poor security history. Back in 2019 they had a settlement with the FTC regarding security issues in their routers and cameras.
