People asked for it. Will they actually buy it? My guess is no.

People have been whining about Youtube's model being ad driven. So when Youtube gave people an option to subscribe and remove ads, they revolted. Even people on HN are mad about Youtube Premium.

I can't help but think that this is just a stunt on IG's part. A "Here it is, EU. A checkbox for your regulations/demands/laws. We know no one will buy it but it gets the regulators off our back".

Personally, I've never hated the ad driven internet. It made everything free. In fact, I miss that internet. Today, almost no service can survive being ad-driven. Everything is a paywall/subscription. It's way worse for people in the lower income bracket.

    I did not have perception, that Youtube’s Premium offering drives people off.

    For me it was the default option once it appeared, because it allows not get bothered and get the content I came for instead of ads coming each five minutes in some really greedy edits.
