What are some promising technologies that you know to remove CO2 from the atmosphere?

I keep hearing that CCS has always been a failure and is continuing to be a failure.

So what are some promising technologies that you know to remove CO2 from the atmosphere that you think are scalable enough to help?

Thanks.

This video explains why carbon capture is not a feasible solution, based on the limits of physics: https://youtu.be/mCnr0HwW28w

Summary:

- Carbon capture and storage technologies are not economically viable or scalable enough to meaningfully address climate change. The costs of capturing and storing large volumes of CO2 are prohibitively high.

- The scale of CO2 emissions is immense - about 50 billion tons per year globally. Capturing even a small fraction of this would require massive, costly infrastructure.

- Storing captured CO2 underground is challenging and expensive. There are no easy or cheap solutions for long-term storage.

- Relying on natural carbon sinks like plants or algae is not a viable solution, as the captured carbon is eventually released back into the atmosphere.

- The author is highly skeptical of claims that carbon capture technologies can have a significant impact on climate change, dismissing them as "greenwashing" and "vaporware."

- The author argues that the free market will naturally choose the cheaper option of simply releasing CO2 into the atmosphere rather than paying the high costs of capture and storage.

- The author is critical of climate change denialism and the "seductive lies" told by those who dismiss the scientific evidence.

- The author acknowledges that future generations will have to deal with the consequences of the current generation's unsustainable energy use and emissions.

- The author suggests that public perception and psychology play a major role in the lack of action on climate change, with people preferring to believe comforting lies over inconvenient truths.

- Overall, the passage presents a bleak assessment of the feasibility and likelihood of large-scale carbon capture and storage being implemented to meaningfully address climate change.

The same youtuber proposed a fuel whose emissions would both reflect the sun's energy back and absorb carbon: https://youtu.be/hL3AZGw9xZM

    Summary:

    - Global warming is a massive, planetary-scale problem that has been building up over generations due to the burning of hydrocarbons. Reversing it would require an equally massive amount of energy.

    - The extra energy absorbed by the Earth due to global warming is only about 1 part in 1000 of the total solar energy the planet receives, but this small imbalance has a huge impact.

    - Sodium could potentially be used as a "carbon-neutral" fuel that absorbs CO2 from the atmosphere when burned, helping to reverse global warming.

    - Burning sodium produces a dense aerosol that could help increase cloud cover and reflect more sunlight, further counteracting global warming.

    - Using sodium as a fuel has significant drawbacks, including the highly corrosive and dangerous nature of sodium hydroxide in the exhaust.

    - The best applications for sodium-based fuels may be in cargo ships and aircraft, where the hazardous exhaust can be better contained.

    - Intentional geoengineering to combat climate change, while risky, may be necessary given the scale of the problem.

    - More research and experimentation is needed to fully understand the potential and challenges of using sodium as a climate change solution.

    - Solving the climate crisis will require a multi-faceted, global effort, not a single "magic" solution.

    - The video presents a novel and thought-provoking idea, but cautions against overly simplistic or premature claims about its effectiveness.
