Tell HN: My CEO wants to shut down the intern program and use Devin instead
This summer was supposed to be our startup's first intern program ever, but I overheard my (non-technical) CEO mention the other day that she wanted to potentially axe the program (rescinding the 2 accepted offers so far) and just use Devin instead. Not sure how serious or not the statement was, but there weren't any laughs that followed and I thought the comment was in extremely poor taste. Just wanted to rant. Lol, that's not even the purpose of intern programs, most of the value of the program is to recruit people not to get cheap labor. That's exactly what I was going to say. depends on the stage of the company - but could be a way to attract the talent that they are looking for I would encourage her. If she is so inept as to suggest that, I would 100% fake my support to make her fail as soon as possible. People like this need to be allow to face the consequences of their ideas. Startup idea: Hire interns to emulate AI, build better models for internal use, coop ownership, IPO, retire by graduation. intern.me seems available. Casually suggest that an AI could replace the C-suite positions… Don't even suggest it just do it. AI 100% can replace executive officers. Leave the company and start a single person firm where you have an AI board of executives. So a lot of folks have been saying AI is nowhere near ready yet so we won't see job losses anytime soon. But then there are people like this CEO... also cant wait for the 'ai that doesnt actually work' cleanup driving more jobs I'd start looking for work, personally. CEO clearly has judgment issues. Nontech CEO … bigly oof. I'm sorry your CEO is a jackass. If they really believe a glorified Taylor series can replace an intern, perhaps you should embrace their depravity and have Devin also do 100% the code reviews. Just make sure you have written documentation of their brain dead decision making so you can CYA when it invariably blows up in their face. Read up on malicious compliance and embrace it fully.
