Affinity (Serif) being purchased by Canva
affinity.serif.comThe beginning of the end for a one-off license it appears. I don't see why Canva would green-light V3 as a non-subscription service. And that makes me wonder if Canva will be able to compete with the likes of Adobe/Figma/Sketch.
The wording of the announcement is basically a forewarning that change is going to come sooner or later. I don't see this as a "charitable acquisition" by Canva.
> Canva’s business model is subscription, are there any plans to change how Affinity is sold?
Answer: Do not worry, your existing software won’t be affected. New updates after a token few V2 updates though…
Honestly, expect the worst here. Even if they don’t announce as such, it is most definitely in the minds of every executive walking around there.
I loved that affinity hadn't jumped on the subscription bandwagon, I hope that they maintain their philosophy.

It will be interesting to see, whether Affinity will switch to subscriptions in the service. Officially "it's not planned".
