Show HN: Save your words online forever - Wrytten
Hi guys,
Built in a few weeks Wrytten.com. In simple it’s a way to save your words forever on the internet using the blockchain. It’s not that complicated to do it yourself if you know crypto and hold your own keys but I wanted to make this for non crypto users as most people don’t want to hold crypto or learn and it’s a paid service.
I threw some ads up and showed to a few thousand people and so far no interest at all.
Appreciate any feedback from your end. If you would like to try it , message me on the site and I’ll give a full trial for no money. Really trying to figure out what’s wrong with the pitch, service, idea, etc Confused as to the use case here. What problem are you trying to fix? Why on earth would anyone want to “permanently” store public messages? Especially when said message can only be 80 characters and cost me a whopping $49 for the privilege? it's a good question. to give some insight from my perspective: 1. keeping legacy, carving in stone, carving in a tree your love letters are human things that are always wanted. this service is by far the best way i know to keep your words forever. because its in the bitcoin blockchain, it should be longer than keeping a google sheet, an external storage device, a website or amazon s3 in the cloud. 2. i have looked at the blockchain and sampled 1000's of entries before i built this and i can see people have written at the 80 characters or less and seen important date updates, opinions, a lot of memorials, promotion of ideas and websites and many more so it is being used. 3. the question of $49 is a good question which needs to be tested. my assumptions are: a. there is cost for run this business, pay a miner fee and verify these messages plus the business needs to make some money.
b. it might be that the price should be a little lower but not sure yet.
c. it is a service. if it solves your problem, gives you a better option. d. saves you time to do it yourself, people will pay for it. (people even pay for others to wait in line for them for the newest iphone). it's about the value you get and whats its worth for you. 4. this site is v0.1 and future we can enable more than 80 characters but have not implemented this yet. > I threw some ads up and showed to a few thousand people and so far no interest at all. Perhaps people will be more interested if you write the message in the blockchain and also post it in eXTwitter and a link to a webpage where they can "see" that it's posted in the blockchain. It's silly to add a feature that are to ephemeral post to a permanent one, but people understand eXTwitter better than the blockchain. They don't want to store "I love you" forever. They only want to post in eXTwetter that they have done that. first of all thanks for the reply. by "eXTwitter", do you mean twitter? any examples of what you mean? Sorry, it a bad joke. It's the currently bussines known as X, previously known as Twiter. Congrats on launching it! I really like the idea.
The issue is that, as you say, tech people may be able to do it and to not tech people, the blockchain might be too abstract. I think the examples you give on the homepage are great. Thanks for checking it out. I am targeting non tech people so my guess is that the words related to blockchain scare away people so I’m trying to run an an test with no mentions about blockchain (on homepage) Appreciate it i missed the joke. still very much appreciate you giving thought
