Ask HN: Resources for Comedic Book Writing

2 points by tristanMatthias 2 years ago · 4 comments · 1 min read

Hi all. I’m hoping to write a book in the next few months and would love humour to be a large part of the tone. I’ve taken improv classes before and have a great sense of humour, but I don’t know how to _write_ comedy.

Does anybody have any resources they’d recommend? Books, online courses, etc.

Thanks!

Interesting! Is this comedic writing as well? Or just comic books?

      Depends on material/approach.

Personal favorite was extremely talented undergraduate presentation writer -- mixed subject matter with presentation/exercises in way that when grasped subject matter, got technical subject matter version of comic relief.

'picture worth 1000 words' intro or conclusion bit easier to do.

Unrelated to aforementioned academic presentation writer examples:

      OS paging game : https://www.gnu.org/fun/jokes/paging.game.html

      Mechanical engineer's object allocator : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S_qTVhKyY68

Convert mechanical engineer's object allocator into 'cartoon' (https://github.com/experience-ml/cartoonize )

Use chatgpt write script showing Zark King working the mechanical engineer's object allocator. Perhaps adding 'blue' pages for empty node pools within a given page. Add some UTF-8, UTF-16, UTF-32 to some pages, to &(* character) /process references. Perhaps hashtag q.e.d. to pid.

Pick appropriate allocated pages to use in serialized q.e.d. / pid presentation.

      Thank-you for the links, sargstuff.

      Nearby link mentions comedic writing:
