Props to that guy for actually having a spine. The guy on the stage, the people jeering at him and the guy elbowchecking him sure as hell didn't have one.

Google cloud has had regions in India, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia for years but they shouldn't offer cloud services in Israel for some reason? Seems a bit silly!

This person should have quit their job years ago if they had a real issue with the ethics of cloud computing.

Good for him. The reality of the genocide is getting harder and harder to keep out of our ostensibly "politics-free" tech bubble.

"Politics-free" is always just implicit endorsement of the status quo. The apolitical is political.

More engineers show show ownership of their work and how it impacts the world around them, it's not only abstract lines of code.

End the genocide in GAZA!

During the bombings of Gaza in 2021 I quit my job at an Israeli startup which my company had acquired and transferred me to.

To be fair, I was not happy with the working culture which existed at the startup and I probably would have quit anyway as soon as my visa status would have allowed me. But after the bombings started I couldn’t in goon conscious work for these people.

Before the bombings started they had actually posted a team wide email celebrating Israeli independence in a very hateful way, describing their neighboring countries as “enemies on all sides”, along other militaristic dehumanizing stuff.

When the 2021 bombings started I went on a strike, ceased communications with them and quit soon after. My visa status was a little complected to maneuver but it all worked out in the end. And I’m really glad I wasn’t working for these people a minute longer.
