Mounting research shows that Covid-19 significantly lowers IQ

From the study the article is about: "participants who had recovered from Covid-19 in whom symptoms had resolved in less than 4 weeks or at least 12 weeks had similar small deficits in global cognition as compared with those in the no–Covid-19 group".

So no, it doesn't apply to everyone that has ever caught covid. It's only (allegedly) people who had multiple months of "symptoms" post-covid that had a change in cognitive ability.

Only 3 points though! And most people have had covid, so it's an even playing field!

    3 points _on average_

It’s troubling. Who knows how deep the rabbit hole goes?

      From the article:

      > In the same study, those who had mild and resolved COVID-19 showed cognitive decline equivalent to a three-point loss of IQ. In comparison, those with unresolved persistent symptoms, such as people with persistent shortness of breath or fatigue, had a six-point loss in IQ. Those who had been admitted to the intensive care unit for COVID-19 had a nine-point loss in IQ. Reinfection with the virus contributed an additional two-point loss in IQ, as compared with no reinfection.

      That is troubling

Are you serious? If this said "most people only lost one finger due to COVID," would you get excited? This is no laughing matter, but extreme damage to the population.

More like "lost 3% mobility in their fingers on average", I suppose

The analogy is just to make a point; intelligence, the main part of being human, is rather more important than mobility in fingers.

So that’s why I feel dumber these days
