Who is attending FOSDEM '24?
I'm currently on a train from Luxembourg to Brussels. Looking forward to my first FOSDEM experience and seeing what it's all about. I just found this post now. I was there, 3000 years ago (oh I mean last weekend, I live 2 hours of public transport away from Brussels). Had fun! Great talks, bad ventilation, had some beers with some people I only knew from a Matrix channel associated with a podcast (that was a very nice experience). Went to Bytenight, felt a bit out of place in the Offdem crowd but enjoyed it, met some colleagues, had one of the best waffles ever. Spoke to some bioinformaticians using Nix and we set up a Matrix room to coordinate talks (or some activity) for next year. Will be going again next year, I highly recommend it if, like me, you have 0 friends that ever installed Linux or know what the GPL is. You are among peers. Unfortunately this year i'm not sure yet whether i can make it (for the first time ever). i will follow some talks online, so you might see me in the chat. Be ready to visit a place crowded with nerds and geeks, hundreds of talks too many too choose from, and the opportunity to meet nice people. Have fun. Seems it just kicked off with the key note now. For those that aren't aware, it's a free conference focusing on all things open source - https://fosdem.org/2024/ I'd like to add, fosdem talks can be viewed realtime online via the web site or on matrix. Video's will also be published after the conference.
