Just got denied for a junior level role with 8 years of exp
Hi all. I’ve just been denied a junior level role with over 8 years of exp as a swe. Used the last of my savings to pay rent. Next month will likely be on the streets.
If anyone has any connections, please give your boy a chance.
I will however try to continue to code once I lose my house. Will start a “blog from the streets” for your all education and entertainment.
o7 All I could find is the following links, if it helps: Thanks! Very familiar with these. Just one role? When I'm in unemployed mode I try to knock out a job application every day. Granted I'm pretty lazy, so it's more like 2-3 job applications a week, on a good week. Have a template for your CV and cover letter. Then just tailor it to each job application. Be less selective about what technologies they ask for. If the job wants {Java, Spring boot, postgres, microservices, Jenkins, git} and you only know {Java, MySql} go for it anyway! Sometimes I look back on old job ads that I ended up working for, and they look nothing like what my job was: (blockchain? internet-of-things? What were they thinking!) Don't bother thinking about why you got knocked back. It could have been any number of reasons: Oh yeah I’ve been unemployed for months and only have been denied from one role. sarcasm I get two interviews a week. “Its a numbers game” is pretty wild. In all seriousness Ive probably put in 200 apps. > Oh yeah I’ve been unemployed for months and only have been denied from one role. sarcasm Never mind. Now I understand. Yeah it's been rough. People keep saying "it's a numbers game" who I don't think are directly connected to the issue atm due to their current employment. I appreciate your commenting and offering advice. Perhaps it is just a numbers game. Going to try to pump up the numbers and get to like 100 apps a day instead of 20. Didn’t mean to come off rude. I do sincerely appreciate the advice. Just trying to cope with intense anxiety and stress with humor. Sry about that ouch. market sucks right now I'm sorry man. what kind of work do you do? what languages? Been primarily on the backend. Last couple of years have been working with Go. Before that, a lot of Python, PHP, Node etc. Laravel, flask, gin, express. The whole nine yards.
It's a numbers game. * Maybe they saw your exp and figured you wouldn't settle for junior's salary.
* If you did settle for a low salary, maybe they figured they wouldn't be able to keep you long, because you'd quickly move elsewhere for a better salary.
* Maybe you were one of about 10 candidates.
* Maybe you're resume was screened by HR or someone who didn't understand your technical worth based on your writing.
