The world health organization has declared that social isolation and loneliness is a major global health problem [1]. I also note there are a lot of solo travelers. Here's my attempt to help with the problem. My favorite memories when I'm abroad is meeting with the local people. This is trying very hard to not be a dating/hookup app but a place where my family might be able to take a local out to dinner and learn about their lives and practice speaking a foreign language.

Why does the "visitor" pay for the meal? If the answer is that the visitor is expected to be wealthy compared to the local and that the local chooses the location, then this appears like a how to get mugged app.

Hey thanks for your comment. I certainly don't want a "how to get mugged app". I look at it as the local is the tourguide and you're paying for a tour. They pick the restaurant and if you agree that's where you go. Since its just meeting in a public place I would hope the chances of getting mugged are low. My hope is that by looking at their social media profiles you'd get an idea of what type of person you are meeting with.

That sounds like a long list of rules just to share a meal with someone.

Are you a software engineer and if/else conditions are bubbling up outside of work?

After reading this article I felt I was almost paying my taxes

I like it. Not because I am a software engineer. But because it cuts down on problems.

The only think I would change is that the host can forgo the paid-for meal if they want. The paid-for meal make sense for a developing country host, but if you live in an expensive city then don't want to make the guest pay even more, and if you live there you are probably not poor yourself.

Ha. Fair. And yes, that should be improved. Thanks for the feedback.
