I have a custom elf/linux distro.

Only the bear minimum to run steam and play native games (which already add tons of cr*p, 32bits steam client code, steam bash scripts... erk!).

My CPU, AMD Zen2, does get stuck in low power mode often, because I cannot get the right load profile to unlock it from that low power mode. I am testing with SMT off, it seems it does the trick: With SMT, it seems the spread of the load is so much efficient, cannot unlock! So I tried to "concentrate" the load with SMT disabled. It is not basic CPU usage but really something more.

My main workhorse is my desktop Linux machine (nothing can beat a water cooled desktop machine for raw power), but as work from home is not possible all the time, there is also a need for a laptop in my life.

I just got my self a Framework 13" AMD laptop and now believe that, barring any major incidents, I will not need to buy a new computer for a long while.

If in the coming years I ever feel a need to upgrade newer faster/better components, then bith machines allow for modular upgrades.
