Tell HN: Reddit is blocking access from AWS IP addresses

Trying to access reddit.com from an AWS device results in a 403 response, with a page displaying the following message:

whoa there, pardner! Your request has been blocked due to a network policy. Try logging in or creating an account https://www.reddit.com/login/ to get back to browsing. If you're running a script or application, please register or sign in with your developer credentials https://www.reddit.com/wiki/api/. Additionally make sure your User-Agent is not empty and is something unique and descriptive and try again. if you're supplying an alternate User-Agent string, try changing back to default as that can sometimes result in a block. You can read Reddit's Terms of Service https://www.reddit.com/wiki/api/. if you think that we've incorrectly blocked you or you would like to discuss easier ways to get the data you want, please file a ticket https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/requests/new. when contacting us, please include your ip address which is: <redacted> and reddit account

This occurs when using a browser with the default UA via remote desktop to an EC2, not just using cli tools like curl

Same here. I usually access reddit from rtv (Python package) from an EC2 linux instance, and today I wasn't able to. Any tip on how to bypass or fix this with rtv?

Same from here. I read reddit from the cli using rtv (Python). I just tried now and can't access it. Anyone know of a fix for rtv?

Same from Azure. old.reddit.com works fine though!

Good, they should be. You can still use RSS or the API all you want, but AWS ips have no legitimate reason to access the actual site.

It’s annoying, happens to me. I sometimes VPN to an EC2.
