Ask HN: Is there some Wiki or database for book translations you know of?

2 points by pheymann · 1 comment · 1 min read

I am a fan of old books, for example, Plato's "The Republic", or books where the author speaks none of the two languages I can read like Camu or Lem. That means every time I am on the lookout for a book it takes me sometimes hours to find the "right" translation. Usually, it comes down to finding the right Reddit post.

Is someone aware of some kind of Wiki or database that collects translation references for books and also has some categorization? With that I mean things like "easy to read", "faithful translation", "for studying", .etc.

Wikidata has translation references for some books ( e.g. https://wikidata.org/wiki/Q123397 ) but not the kind of categorization you're looking for.
