Is Raspberry Pi Moving in the Wrong Direction?

My first impression on reading the headline was, 'absolutely'. The Pi has been aiming for more performance and less affordability for quite a while now.

Hopefully the next gifted electronics genius isn't lost to a lack of opportunity to learn and play with an affordable GPIO device like the original Pi was.
