Ask HN: Black Friday Discounts/Specials

37 points by agent86 2 years ago · 22 comments · 1 min read

It's that time of year, but I haven't seen a HN thread about it yet. I believe last year folks had some Github repos setup with information, and the thread comments had some additional great leads and special discounts for HN users from some places.

What are you looking for, or what have you found this year?

Not to be facetious, but to stay rational, I always consider the ultimate Black Friday Special: 100% off on stuff I don't really need.

I want to promote my own app, which is a new window manager for the macOS, with a 50% discount during Black Friday

Just wanted to say this is awesome (with pardon for the window manager related pun). I really missed this when I had to use Apple hardware a couple years ago.I know there are other solutions, but this seems really elegant, I'm just not sold on the way the floating bar works, because the area where you "drop" the window does not correlate 100% with the position its going to occupy. Maybe if it appeared closer to where you started draggin instead of the top of the screen? Either way, bravo.

PS: even though its nice to have instantaneous feedback. Often when you start arranging you don't really know how you'd like the windows do fit, its kind of a "try it until it feels good thing". This apparently does it really well.

The traditional TradingView black Friday discount always deserves a mention. Although this year it's only 40% off the Plus plan, the Premium one costs only one dollar more so there's that.

Stating that Tower is your favorite git client with a profile that says "Bruno is the Content Marketing Developer of Tower, the popular Git desktop client that helps more than 100,000 developers around the world." without a disclaimer of your affiliation is rather disingenuous.

If you're going to try to surreptitiously promote your own product, at least try to be a little less blatant.

  • gcj 2 years ago

Just a note: Proxyman is now included in Setapp, so you don't need both!
