Thoughts on AI
I think AI will dramatically speed up the improvement of humankind and of the quality of life in all societies around us. Yesterday I had a kind of epiphany when I chatted with ChatGPT via voice chat. I started in english and quickly injected some german to test if it can handle a mix of language in the same voice prompt and then proceeded to ask, if it can switch like that as well. To say that I was amazed with how well it carried out the assignment, would be an understatement. AI tools (predominantly ChatGPT's evolution) continue to be a source of amazement and inspiration. I started to imagine what will be possible due to these recent advancements. We will have an equivalent of an extremely knowledgable person, fluent in all languages, always there to help, to listen and to brainstorm with you. The perfect communicator, mentor and friend. Everybody will have their AI assistant in their life soon. Someone to work on problems with and improve their life. I imagine some kind of AI that helps you analyze your current life circumstances and points you towards the things that most need attention and work. AI can help you reach satisfaction in every domain of life (Physical needs, social needs, self-fulfillment needs, etc.). It can help you become a better human. It can help push humanity towards its greatest potential which remains largely untapped. It might even surpass humanity and gain aspirations of its own. Of course it also holds the potential for being the source or a tool of harm and suffering, but the safety mechanisms in place already give me hope that the advantages and benefits of AI will outweigh the cons by a large margin. And everybody can do his and her part to make sure that it stays this way. As it has always been. An ongoing struggle for order, harmony and justice.
