Apple insists 8GB unified memory equals 16GB regular RAM
appleinsider.comWhile I won't defend what Apple is saying, I do think it's notable just how well MacOS runs on 8GB of ram. Sure, if you do any real work on it, you'll need more ram, but as a general use machine (albeit my 'general use' as a power user), I can't say I've ever felt constrained on my 8GB M2 MacBook Air.
Dozens of Firefox tabs open, email, calendar, discord, whatsapp, image editors, terminal windows, etc. I only know I'm in swap when I go and look in Activity monitor. Even so, the performance impact isn't noticeable.
I've used windows laptops with 8GB of ram before. It's not a pretty sight.
Really shows how technically savvy Apple thinks their customers are. Just one more point supporting "Apple products aren't for people who understand technology."
A famous screen from the movie Animal House comes to mind - cough cough ..B.. S…
But I’m open to being proven wrong by those who want to buy this any try it out.
beach balls still exist on macs.
however - what's true is that memory pressue is significantly lower than on x86 macs
