HN RSS feeds per user no longer available
Not sure how long these feeds have been broken, just noticed today. I used per-user RSS feeds to follow a few posters who generally write on subjects I'm interested in, but now they aren't resolving.
Typically used this format: https://hn.algolia.com/userfeed/<username>
Is there an alternative available or is the RSS option gone permanently? This isn't a HN feature - it's an Algolia feature. They just updated it about a week ago - I'd imagine it's related to that. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=37870077 I don't like the idea of people being scared of RSS. Why drop something like this? If someone has really good ideas i'd like the option to get notified in a simple feed. There is https://hnrss.github.io that does a pretty good job.
A user's RSS feed is https://hnrss.org/user?id=sarcher That's good and I'm glad it exists, but shouldn't this be a native feature? Using this for many years, it's also a nice way to see the comments of people you want to "follow". It's odd that HN itself doesn't provide this. You can get at a user's comments using: https://news.ycombinator.com/threads?id=<user> Furthermore, there is an API. RSS is just a different representation of the same thing. It's always been something i've felt like i'd benefit from but have never found an app/workflow that works for me. In the distant past, I self-hosted Tiny Tiny RSS, accessed it from a web browser and an Android phone, and liked it. I didn't have any problems with it but just never got around to setting it up again when I migrated VMs. Now, I've been using NewsBlur (mostly on iOS, rarely on desktop) ever since Google Reader shut down. I don't have too many subscriptions but a couple folders for online comic strips, status pages or blogs of things I pay for (email service provider, etc.), and some software projects (Kubernetes, etc.). It's in early stages, so feedback is highly appreciated. Fan of inoreader myself. Oh man, if only I knew this existed! There were some high-profile people who I would have loved to follow along with... i had no idea this feature existed. interesting I could use a feature like that.
