I live in Toronto, and I find it weird that people have too-often acted in surprise to find out I don't own a car. Considering everything is in walking distance, or fairly quick transit ride away, why on Earth would I bother paying for parking both at home and at work, sky high insurance, sky high gas, plus maintenance and all the rest of that jazz.

One is convenient. The other is a total and recurring pain.

Besides, I could rent a car any time I wanted, yet I only have one time in my life.

One of the few places you can get by car-less in a society that makes it almost essential to own a car. No car payment, no car insurance, no fear of being one of the many people killed in traffic accidents in any given day in the US. Heck it was even a deciding factor when I decided to move to NYC.

Lived in Manhattan for many years. Never own a car until my first born graduated to a toddler car seat. That was way too heavy to lug to the car rental location.
