Show HN: Send files directly between all the devices in your home network
flowingedge.comWe made an app that transfers files between your mobile or desktop devices (iOS, Android, macOS, Windows, Ubuntu 22.04).
Files are first encrypted and then transferred directly on a SSL over μTP connection.
Each device must be setup with a group name and group password: this pair is used to create an unique encryption key used for signaling (not for the file encryption) so devices in the same network but belonging to different users cannot talk to each other.
You can send files from within the app or, on mobile, share them from other apps.
The app requires a subscription on mobile, but the money is taken only after a week of trial unless the subscription is canceled first.
Subscriptions are managed by Google & Apple. Why should someone pay for this instead of using something that's free, and serves the same function? FlowingEdge Home Edition auto-discovers the devices in the same group, supports auto-resume of the file transfer, supports sharing from other mobile apps, isolates devices in the same network but belonging to different groups, works natively on iOS, Android, Windows, macOS, Linux. There are free apps (mainly web apps) that can compete on some of the features, but we feel that our app has an edge on usability and practicality. Last but not least we need to pay ourselves :-) Yeah, there's also free ones that can do pretty much all that (not just web apps). They're just as easy, if not easier, to use.
