Ask hn: what are some examples of original math ideas from LLMs?
Per post Depends how you define original. A UUID4 is as original and unique as a newborn baby and equally as common and generic. An LLM can certainly generate an answer that has never been seen before, it might even generate a correct answer that has never been seen before. Discovering some major new concept (that is correct) is another thing. My take though is that words like “original” and “creative” and such are really fuzzy and aren’t productively used to describe what LLMs can and can’t do. > it might even generate a correct answer that has never been seen before. How so? Examples? imagine some problem like 7 + 2 = 9 except the numbers are larger and nobody has ever asked that particular problem before. or simpler yet, there are an unlimited number of integers which nobody has ever written before. It is no special feat to write one down.
