Ask HN: Can panopticon automation requirements be computed?
Often people say things like "government doesn't have the resources to police X". With increasing automation it seems like they don't need the resources. Can this be quantified into some kind of "orwellian threshold"? Where the efficiency of social control is such that there is no way out?
