Ask HN: How to deal with newsletters that refuse to unsubscribe you?
I've been trying to unsubscribe from Railway's (railway.app) mailing list for over a year now with no success. Wondering if HN folks have any advice on dealing with this situation?
What I've tried: (1) clicked on the "unsubscribe" link at the bottom of their emails (did this numerous times on several emails), (2) logged in and changed my account's email to a fake email from temp-mail.org, (3) deleted my account, and (4) emailed a Railway support engineer who told me last month that they've deleted my account data.
I understand that I could set up a Gmail filter to automatically delete all incoming Railway emails, but I'd like to avoid this approach. I might use Railway in the future and will likely forget about this filter. Find some direct contact email address such as legal department or DPO on their website and forward all the spam to it. Filter, send to spam, briefly look at the spam folder once a month. Takes a few minutes. Not worth wasting a lot of time fighting this regrettable fact of online life. Do the emails always come from a generic email address or a specific newsletter email address?
