Supreme Court Strikes Down Race-Based Admissions at Harvard and UNC
nytimes.comGood. Although well intentioned, this is racism and racism has no place in higher education.
Agreed. For one thing, "race" buckets are far too broad. "Asian" is a term that represents ~60% of the world population, lumping countries as diverse as Indonesia, North Korea, Bangladesh and Kazahkstan together.
So you also agree legacy admissions should be banned? that schools should be funded based on number of students not wealth or race of the neighborhood? that college prep programs should be made available to everyone?
I don't think paying your way into collage has anything to do with being a protected class.
Not familiar with the US university system, but aren't these institutions run independent of the government?
Yep, legacy admissions are not great, but it's an orthogonal issue.
I’m ok with literally all of that.
In the interests of fixing equality I assume this will also result in the banning of legacy admissions, equal funding for public schools regardless of where those schools are, and providing equal access to SAT, GRE, etc training services regardless of location or parent income, right?
> equal funding for public schools
Most public schools in America are primarily funded by property taxes. This has nothing to do with racism or affirmative action.
>This has nothing to do with racism.
Other than the systemic kind.
