Hey HN, Cole and Alex here.

We're excited to share CourseGen (https://www.CourseGen.ai), an AI-powered platform that aims to rethink the traditional approach to education by utilizing generative AI models for creating individualized learning paths. If you're into AI, education, and how these two can intersect, you might find this interesting.

The backbone of CourseGen is the generative AI. Instead of the one-size-fits-all courses, CourseGen aims to craft tailored, non-linear learning paths. Think of it like a choose-your-own-adventure book, but for learning.

We acknowledge that there's a long-standing issue with generalized courses – they often don't align with everyone's learning style. CourseGen is our experiment in trying to tackle that problem. By using AI, we are attempting to give more agency to the learners in how they consume educational content.

We’re looking at long-term possibilities of making education adapt to the learner rather than the other way around. We know this is a huge task, and this is just the start.

Being a part of the community, we value the deep insights and expertise here. We’re really keen on hearing what you think. Are there any challenges that you think we might face? Any features that you would love to see? Is there something similar that you have come across?

Please feel free to dissect, critique, and suggest. We're all ears.

You can check it out here: https://www.CourseGen.ai and join our discord here: https://discord.gg/F6rXbXup

Here are some cool prompt ideas:

- "I'm a coder who enjoys philosophy. Can you build a course that delves into the philosophy of programming languages and their evolution?"

- "I'm a fan of superheroes and physics. Create a course that explores the physics behind superhero powers and evaluates which powers could be theoretically possible."

- "Build a real-time public transportation tracking system that utilizes IoT devices installed on buses and trains. The system should collect and analyze data on vehicle locations, occupancy, and schedule adherence, then provide live updates and predictive arrival times to commuters through a mobile app. Additionally, implement features for route optimization and notifications for delays or disruptions."

- "Help me host an astronaut themed party for my 4 year old"

The more specific you are, the better the course will be. We allow up to 1000 characters, so feel free to explore! You can also have some control over the length of the courses by requesting longer or shorter courses.

Now, onto the roadmap: We're heads-down coding to get some cool features out — dynamic quizzes, Anki-compatible flashcards, to-the-point summaries, and the ability to take a deeper dive into any topic. These are being designed to generate as users engage with the material. We're pretty stoked about it, but they're not there just yet. The goal is to keep the learning experience fluid and responsive.

Also, shoutout to Helicone.ai. Their service is awesome, provided me with monitoring to my OpenAI calls and helped me get this live. Check them out!

How's your level of false information? For instance, if I ask about highly technical specifics, such as how load bearing architecture works or a tutorial on loop quantum gravity, will your LLM fabricate information or are sources easily available for the presented facts?

Personally, I would be very interested if the system provides a simple method of fact checking.

This is a great idea. Currently it does not browse the internet at all, it is just using typical GPT requests with whatever it is trained on which can hallucinate. However, I think it can be pretty accurate at most things. Adding the ability to fact check any given part of the course is an awesome feature idea!

The usual HN feedback: Landing page shows me nothing your product can do, there are no examples. Many users including me might not be initially interested enough to want to signup and test it out.

There's no information on your splash page. Why would I want to sign up for something without knowing anything about it?

How is this different from TutorAI ?

  • colegottdankOP 2 years ago

Truthfully not much different, the biggest difference now is that we use the 16k model. So the entire course is within context, which makes a huge difference in the quality of the content. We do have plans on adding the ability to dive deeper into any topic which creates kind of a branching learning path.
