I’m not so sure that’s what the study suggests.

It sounds more like civilization serially traversing moral standards from generation to generation. While at the same time aging generations lament the passing of conventions they may or may not have actually had.

I gain this perspective from observing ~6,500 years of human history.

Moral propositions are a candle flame in the storm of human unrest.
