Ask HN: AR/VR Learning Path
Given the apparent quality of Apple's product and at least one other big player heavily invested (Meta) I am convinced that AR/VR will mature and become mainstream during my working years. How do I best prepare myself for the opportunities that will arise? Learn 3D modelling. It's hard to say what future interfaces will look like, but you should definitely learn the asset creation pipeline. I've been using Blender for close to a decade now and cannot recommend it more. If you spend a few hours a week practicing your 3D modelling, you will be well-poised to start creating content when VR/AR adoption kicks off. Another safe bet is WebXR, which Apple has more-or-less confirmed support for (alongside Meta). I feel like most modeling is going to shift to generative contexts where the application provides robust descriptions to the user's client and the client rebuilds a representation of the object that the client is capable of rendering. These descriptors could also be sent and rendered/streamed from remote devices too.
