I always fail to grasp how interviewers don't start laughing when people like Musk or Trump start spewing this sort of delusional lies.

Let him have his "OpenAI exists because of me". Unlike other projects where he claims to be a co-founder (but wasn't), in this one he was a co-founder. The fact he started bending arms and insisting on full control and they kicked him out was the best thing to happen to OpenAI though.

As much as interviewers want to be seen as tough, they have to balance that against people not being willing to appear on their show anymore, depriving them of income and influence.

A not unreasonable position. There are commentators to do that work later on.

I know but it requires some serious acting skills to sit and nod when the person in front of you is promoting themselves as the smarterst person in the world . Add to that that you maybe saw them stumble on the stairs or burn their tongue with some hot coffee a couple of minutes earlier when preparing to start the interview.

Because interviewers of people like Musk and Trump are largely people trading on the interviewee’s popularity for personal gain, and know they will be more able to get future interviews with similar figures if they are seen as not be a hostile venue for their subject’s self-promotion.

I assume that most of them are as foolishly uninformed as Musk or Trump’s audience.

When did Elon become a moron? Or was he always one?
