Brazil's Supreme Court Orders Google, Meta, Spotify Presidents to Testify
cnnbrasil.com.brThe Brazilian Supreme Federal Court (STF), through Justice Alexandre de Moraes, ruled on Tuesday (May 2) that the presidents of the Big Tech companies (Google, Meta, Spotify) must testify before the Federal Police (PF) to clarify why they authorized mechanisms that could contribute to potential disinformation against the Fake News Bill (PL das Fake News).
Would be interesting to hear exactly what "mechanisms" this is about.
Would it be fair to just let the Brazilian government have its way with how these services are consumed within their country?
Would it be fair to let the brazilian government basically take over control of social media companies and their moderation whenever it wants so it can unilaterally censor anything at any time? That's essentially what this law says. It also holds them responsible for user generated content.
You mean like China? Or Russia since 2022?
Finally the BRICS countries have something in common: authoritarianism.
