I have come to believe that the desires of the satellite constellation providers will always trump that of the scientists. There is no money in astronomy and we have decided that money is more important than science in this case. We will need to build telescopes that live above LEO from now on. This means much higher costs and harder operational environments, but i don't see any other solution.

You can't just "paint them black" because the satellite is still there and will show up in the images.
