TikTok to be banned on UK government phones
bbc.co.ukMentioned this in another thread, but wow - at this point I'm not sure it's incompetence but just another thing they can throw at China/Russia/whoever it is this week, and see if it sticks.
You don't retroactively prevent people using random trash on government devices, you prevent anything being installed that isn't approved and vetted
I refuse to believe this is incompetence anymore, it's just so widespread and unfathomably dumb.
are facebook/twitter going to be banned on Uk government phones?
I'm in fact surprised that any such apps were allowed in the first place. Every time I see one of these articles I'm surprised for the exact same reason.
The only exception that would make sense would be if your job involves public affairs/social media presence in an official capacity.
Otherwise, yes social media apps of any flavor are too risky and don’t belong on government phones.
Same. My work phone allows a very, very narrow set of applications to be installed from a pre-approved list. Social media is absolutely not on there.
