Is Google coral getting abandoned
Last news on https://coral.ai/ was on May 5 2022
Activity on the github project seems to have stopped. https://github.com/google-coral ai accelerator market is so tough... When we were designing ai pipeline for video processing at my last company, we went through a lot of different accelerators during research... most of the companies won't even send you a dev kit unless you show promise to buy thousands.. Google coral was different, of the shelf, easy to buy, plug and play, python API. It has a few problems though. It's not very fast for today's standards. The list of supported operators aged quickly. On top of that it is a bit energy hungry, 2 TOPS per watt + random spikes. I hope they are working on something new, but I also won't be suprised if they kill it, for the last year the devices are constantly out of stock. Not difficult to imagine coral.ai products being misused since the Drone Wars have started. > Is Google _______ getting abandoned Yes. While I share the sentiment, it seems like this one came with a built in expiration date. It's clear that any specific AI accelerator chip will not remain state of the art for long. Coral always felt like a prototype they produced a couple of 100.000's of, because that was the minimum order at the fab and they decided to share the 90k they didn't need with the community. Would Coral still be anywhere near state of the art today? For how much longer do you expect, e.g. NVidia to keep selling Jetson Nanos?
