SlidesGPT – ChatGPT for Slides
slidesgpt.comPerhaps the most remarkable thing about this whole AI phenomenon has been the overzealous censorship.
Here I tried to make a slide deck: Acinetobacter baumannii essential gene network.
>Sorry, we couldn't generate a presentation due to a content issue. Content related to sexual, hate, violence or health topics is prevented. Please try again with different text. The filter is far from perfect, if you believe this flag is a mistake, please contact us at tom@slidesgpt.com
Sure okay.
I tried to generate slides with "Bible" in its prompt, as I wanted to see if I could generate slides for use at my church. It looks like any mention of "Bible" or religious words are considered "sexual, hate, violence, health topics"???
EDIT: When I took out the word "Bible", it worked. I tried "Genesis chapter 2" and it generated a decently good looking deck, which was impressive, and definitely usable. However, if I used "Bible Genesis chapter 2", it would reject the prompt.
Obvious miss, fixed.
So you corrected by ensuring to censor genesis as well?
Yeah, it's censored to a point of uselessness.
Health. Defense. Bible. History. Sex. Of course it's totally morally wrong to generate decks about all those issues.
Security seems to be another censored topic.
OP here. The purpose here of the "health" filter, which in its current state is fairly basic, is to to provide minimum protection for sensitive topics. For example, there are a larger number of health related requests and at the current state of quality/correctness of output I found it to be irresponsible to generate such content.
This may be an indication that it's at least useless, if not irresponsible, in other contexts too.
Tom from SlidesGPT here.
About 40 days ago I've first posted SlidesGPT on HN (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=34503970)
Based on feedback, scalability should be improved now, also the content of slides should have improved (but still varies):

Please let me know your feedback, thanks, Tom
Could you explain the censorship on apparently controversial topics? The person that claimed a block on Acinetobacter baumannii for example? Wikipedia tells me it is a hospital infection, and also something that IEDs are known to be associated with infections.
This is one of few demos like this I have tried out that has worked near 100% of its promise with little revisionary effort.
Very impressive, great job!
What was an interesting challenge with this that no one has asked you about yet?
Made a deck about e-commerce funnel analysis.
Bunch of the images are clearly copyrighted, from sources I’d get in trouble for using — not to mention they are medical-related, not e-commerce related.
I’d suggest sourcing images only when they’re legally used.
Also long and run-on without the traditional “table of contents” slide and/or “thank you” slide which are must-haves.
Otherwise, this was pretty cool and I can see how it’d work as a great template for further tuning.
Can you let me know your prompt so I investigate on the images? It's currently using Unsplash which has a very permissible license. I need change the endpoint from Unsplash Source to their API which then allows to do proper attribution.
Thank you slides are being added depending on the mood/temperature of the model :)
Will adjust the prompt to include proper agenda and Thank you note.
You’re welcome to find it from logs — I honestly didn’t keep the prompt, and you seem to not provide the prompt back on the output screen (which would be very helpful for this purpose alone).
Question on a tangent -- what is the way to programmatically create PPTX files?
We may have a separate usecase that can benefit from this integration. Any pointers or example code appreciated.
It's using Google Slides[0] which then allows to export to PPTX. There may be other better options.
PPTX is an XML format itself. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/office/open-xml/structure-...
I use Quarto to make pptx slides programmatically.
I wrote give me the future of AI in the style of Apple and it outputted a deck positioning Apple’s future of AI.
When in reality I want the slide deck to be in the style of Apple Keynotes
OP here.
Tried the same with "Create a slide deck on the future of AI - use the iconic style and tone of an Apple Keynote" it generated https://slidesgpt.com/l/NqZ4
Looks like an area to improve on to support different tones and styles
I tried one and it consistently cut off text by overflowing the length of the slide.
