It's normal for girls to experience and self report more sad feelings due to higher neuroticism, and boys/men typically actually commit suicide (as opposed to having suicidal intent, or self reported suicidal thoughts) at 3-4x more likely than women.

That all being said, it's terribly sad to see kids negatively affected by a variety of factors including social media, pandemic responses, and just a generally negative outlook on their future (things like career prospects, finding a partner, living out the "american dream" or other purposeful life)

    Gotta say the obvious, suicide shouldn't be the bottom floor metric for determining if social media is hurting people.

It's social media.

The more social media gives us almost bespoke communities (not even including chatbots) the less resilience people are developing.

The movie M3GAN satirised this nicely.
