One UI 5.1 bloatware is not consuming 60 GB storage on new Samsung Galaxy S23

Summary: Samsung includes the losses from the 1024<=>1000 conversion into the system size, making it appear much larger than it actually is.

This also explains why OneUi occupies more space on phones with more storage: 69GB are lost on this conversion on 1TB models, whereas only 9GB are lost on the 128GB model.

I didn't bother looking at the twitter thread, but could this 'system' usage actually be reserved NAND blocks instead? That would actually make sense to categorise as system.

Obviously, it's not actually bloatware if it's some percentage of total size, but I have a hard time imagining why someone would attribute the conversion loss to system rather than just use the base10 measures in the UI instead.

base 10 is fake. I think Samsung should just show actual storage capacity in GiB on the screen. Optionally they can sell the device as 477GiB

It still eats up +10GB compared to last year.
